Tkiyet Um Ali (TUA), established in 2003 by Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al-Hussein, stands as a groundbreaking initiative in the Arab World aimed at eradicating hunger. As one of the first non-governmental organizations in the region, TUA focuses on providing sustainable food support through the distribution of food parcels and hot meals to the underprivileged in Jordan. The organization draws inspiration from the vision of Her Late Majesty Queen Alia, who conceptualized this mission over 39 years ago, and it embodies the Islamic principle of social responsibility toward those in need.
Situated in the heart of Amman, TUA began its operations after consultations about its establishment started in 2002, with construction completed in the subsequent year. From its inception, TUA has maintained a clear vision dedicated to eradicating hunger and addressing the nutritional needs of families experiencing extreme poverty.
In 2005, TUA initiated social research activities that laid the groundwork for its daily feeding program, which provides up to 350 meals a day for individuals visiting its premises. Concurrently, the organization launched a monthly food parcel distribution initiative designed for families living in extreme poverty. Each parcel contains 22 essential food items intended to support a family for an entire month.
In 2005, TUA also explored the integration of Adahi meat offerings into its food baskets to enhance their impact. Collaborating with the Jordanian General Iftaa’ Department, TUA established the Adahi program, marking it as a pioneering effort within Jordan.
Building on the success of its sustainable food initiatives, TUA introduced a rehabilitation and employment program in 2007 aimed at enhancing the skills and employability of members from endorsed families. The following year, it inaugurated "Takaya Al-Khair markets," which represent a novel approach in the Middle East by providing free food commodities through electronic magnetic cards to preserve dignity while meeting basic humanitarian needs.
In 2013, TUA launched its Eradicating Extreme Poverty Project with an objective to reach out to 20,000 households living in extreme poverty across Jordan. By 2015, over 54,000 households had been assessed, with 18,300 being endorsed based on specific eligibility criteria.
Over the years, Tkiyet Um Ali has established itself as a leading organization in combating hunger within Jordan. To date, it has delivered more than 220,000 food parcels and served approximately 1.95 million hot meals to underserved populations, along with providing 150,000 Udhiyah meat offerings.
